  • Alert!! First Trojan-SMS virus for S60 Smartphones
By admin on May 22, 2007 | No Comments Comments

    Nokia N95

The first Trojan SMS virus, designed for smartphones running Series 60 OS, has been spotted by Russian antivirus maker “Kaspersky Labs”. The virus is called Trojan-SMS.Symb.OS.Viver.
Viver is not a harmless concept study like recent Podloso Linux virus for iPod. If you get infected with this one, it can cost you some pretty money - after installation on your phone, Viver starts sending SMS messages to the premium SMS numbers, thus accruing charges to your mobile account and generating income for the virus author.

While quite a few similar viruses were spotted for all JAVA running mobile phones, Viver is the first to be specifically designed for S60 based smartphones.

If you’re using a S60 phone from Nokia, watch out. Kaspersky Labs has just discovered the first trojan, Troja-SMS.Symb.OS.Viver, that will affect the S60 OS. If you mistakenly download this from the internet and install this on your phone—which is easy to do, since it’s mislabeled and disguised as a useful photo editor or video codec pack—the virus will start sending out SMS messages like nobody’s business.

    Nokia N81
While there aren’t any official snapshots of the Nokia N81 multimedia phone floating around the Internet, at least we have renderings to drool over. This phone will definitely be more advanced than the 3G-enabled N80, featuring a stylish black finish (read: fingerprint magnet), 8GB worth of storage space, dedicated music buttons, a 2 megapixel camera, and HSDPA connectivity, although you also have to option to surf via EDGE. WiFi hotspots are the N81’s best friend thanks to its built-in wireless chip, while Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support works great to listen to your favorite tunes wirelessly. No word on how much it will cost though, but the N81 should see action by the last quarter of this year.
